The open-source spirit shone brightly at WordCamp Islamabad 2025 Contributor Day, where passionate WordPress enthusiasts gathered to learn, collaborate, and give back to the global WordPress project.
With an outstanding turnout of 120 attendees, the day was filled with energy, curiosity, and community connection.
Getting Started
We began the day by helping new contributors set up their WordPress.org profiles, join the Make WordPress Slack channels, and understand the community communication guidelines.
Participants were introduced to the basics of contribution including WordPress installation, code quality standards, and version control. After onboarding, attendees joined their preferred contribution tables, where experienced table leads guided them through their first contributions.
What is the WordPress Community?
We explained to the attendees that the WordPress Community is much more than a group of developers. It is a global family of people from all backgrounds who work together to make WordPress better for everyone.
The community includes developers, designers, translators, writers, educators, photographers, and organizers. All of them share a belief in open collaboration, freedom, and accessibility. Being part of this community means contributing to something that empowers millions of people around the world to publish freely on the web.
Why Contribute to WordPress?
We also shared why contribution matters and how it helps both individuals and the project itself.
When you contribute to WordPress:
- You learn new skills and grow professionally.
- You connect with people from across the globe.
- You share your knowledge and make the web more accessible.
- You earn contributor badges on your WordPress.org profile that recognize your efforts.
Contribution is not only about improving software. It is also about learning, giving back, and becoming part of something bigger.
How to Contribute to WordPress
Attendees were guided on how to start contributing, even if they were completely new to the process.
We explained that there are many ways to contribute, not just through coding. Some of the main contribution areas include:
- Core: Improving and maintaining the WordPress software.
- Docs: Writing and maintaining documentation for users and developers.
- Polyglots: Translating WordPress into different languages.
- Support: Helping others in the WordPress.org forums.
- Training: Creating learning materials and tutorials.
- Photos: Submitting images to the WordPress Photo Directory.
- Patterns: Designing and sharing block patterns.
- Test: Testing new features and reporting issues.
Every attendee found a space where they could contribute meaningfully, regardless of their skill level or background.
Highlights from the Day

They explored how to identify and work on “good first bugs,” tested new features, and discussed how every small improvement helps strengthen WordPress for millions of users worldwide.
At the Docs table, participants explored how documentation makes WordPress more accessible to everyone.
