It is hundreds of years old, and it has been restored so people can visit it today. Its narrow stone lanes, old houses and small courtyards make you feel like you have stepped back in time.

Today, it is a lovely mix of history and modern life. You will find craft shops, art galleries and cozy cafes, along with historic religious sites that show how many communities have shared this area over the years. It is a great place for a slow walk, photos and a cup of tea.

What you get from the visit

A peaceful, walkable place with a strong sense of history

Handmade crafts, art and local items that you rarely find in a regular market

A relaxed setting for a meal or a chat with fellow attendees

A few tips from us

Wear comfortable shoes, as the lanes are made of stone and there are some steps.

Evenings are the most beautiful, when the lights come on and the village feels warm and lively.

Be respectful at the religious sites, and ask before taking photos of people.

The Margalla Hills are right behind the village, so you can combine it with a short nature stop.

2. Golra Sharif Railway Museum

Golra Sharif Railway Museum is one of Islamabad’s hidden gems. It sits inside an old railway station on the edge of the city, built during British rule in the 1880s. The station is still in use today, but it is better known for the heritage museum that opened here in 2003.

The museum has two galleries with railway items from over 150 years, such as old signals, telephones, photographs and models. Outside, there is an open yard with steam locomotives and vintage coaches. Some of the coaches are said to be linked to historical figures like Lord Mountbatten and the Maharaja of Jodhpur. The old trees and the station building make it a calm, quiet place to walk around.

What you get from the visit

A close look at the history of railways in this region

Old steam engines and vintage coaches that you can see up close

A quiet, scenic place that many Islamabad visitors miss

A few tips from us

Wear comfortable shoes, as you will be walking around the yard and platform.

Check the opening days and timings before you go, as they can change.

Go in the morning or late afternoon, when the weather is cooler and the light is good for photos.

Keep one to two hours free for a relaxed visit.

The station is on the outskirts of the city, so a ride app is the easiest way to get there.

Getting Around

Ride-hailing apps like Yango and inDrive work well in Islamabad and are the easiest way to move between these places. Sharing a ride with fellow attendees makes the trip cheaper and more fun. Traffic can be heavy during busy hours, so leave a little extra time.

A simple plan:

Visit Golra Sharif Railway Museum in the daytime, and keep a couple of hours for it.

Visit Saidpur Village separately, and it works best as an evening visit.

Final Words

WordCamp Islamabad 2026 is about learning, sharing and meeting the people who make the WordPress community what it is. Exploring the heritage of the city adds another layer to that experience. It gives you a better feel for the place that is hosting you, and often a few new friends to explore with.

These places are just the beginning. We will share more to explore soon, so stay tuned.

See you at WordCamp Islamabad 2026!

This guide was written by Amna Tahir, one of the volunteers helping bring WordCamp Islamabad 2026 to life.

Visiting Islamabad for WordCamp 2026?
