I have been writing WordPress tutorials for 14 years. However, I no longer have time to sit down and write theme code.
So earlier this year I connected my own blog to an AI assistant using MCP, the Model Context Protocol. It is an open standard that lets an assistant take real actions on a site instead of only describing them.
I asked it to adjust the design, change the colors, compare fonts, and convert my block theme into a classic theme. It did that work while I watched and approved each step.
The classic theme rebuild took under an hour. I believe this is how many people will manage their sites.
In this talk I will explain MCP in plain words and connect an assistant to a WordPress site live on stage. Then I will run real tasks on it.
I will show the parts that worked and the parts that broke. One of my upload routes failed completely, and I had to find another way in.
I will also touch upon managing WooCommerce stores and multiple WordPress sites using the same chat interface.
Disclosure: I work at Awesome Motive, which makes one of the plugins I will demonstrate.
I will say that on my opening slide. This session covers the open standard, not a product.
I will also name the alternatives, including AI Engine and Royal MCP.
No pricing and no offers will appear on stage. Everything I demonstrate is GPL and available on WordPress.org.
You will leave knowing what an AI assistant can and cannot safely do to a WordPress site today. You will also know which approvals to insist on.
